Having recently been asked by an editor of a wedding magazine for some getting ready shots. I’ve now got together a quick collection to be selected for a photography feature.
I’ve got a few thousand getting ready photos to go through… so this is just a wee sample!

We’re delighted to be on the cover of the most recent Your Merseyside Wedding magazine. It’s a great magazine with bunches of essential wedding info. Definitely worth a look!
This particular photo was taken in Regent’s Park Zoo which was a fantastic location. So many different opportunites for some very unique photos.
In other news – my wedding site is getting a massive overhaul. I have my picture editor currently going through 25,000+ select wedding photos from the past 10 years of wedding photography. A mammoth job – but the new design is looking great. So please stay tuned!
What an incredible past couple of months! To be photographing weddings back home in New Zealand is always an absolute delight. Combined with sunrise portrait shoots on the beach – it was a blissful couple of months! Our 6 month old Scarlett Belle had an absolute ball too. (photo above taken from my home town)
Now i’m back in the Northern Hemisphere spring time and getting pretty excited about all the upcoming summer weddings!
Had the most amazing wedding last week in Northern Ireland. Top Welsh chef Bryn Evans married his beautiful Irish bride Kathryn on the picturesque Foyle River north of Derry.
I have a couple of local Northwest weddings to photograph, then it’s off to the Greek Island of Zakynthos for the wedding of Rosie and Lance end of May. Going to be absolutely stunning! Weddings in Chester, North Wales and Lancashire when I return, then it’s a quick trip across the channel for a nice little Dutch wedding in September.

After carefully choosing the photos with the couple, designing and sending the files away to Italy to be made into a wedding album – I always get a bit excited when the UPS man turns up at the door with a massive white parcel from Italy. I always sneak a peek to make sure everything is there – and the album is up to the usual Italian level of perfect quality.
Bethan and Paul upgraded to the large size with a lovely silk cover on the album. Looks stunning.

They did it… We did it!
After the most magical wedding you can imagine on One Foot Island – we returned to Aitutaki by boat and had a window of 20 mins to get the photos out on the sandbar. I ran down to the nearby bar and asked them nicely if I could borrow one of their kayaks (cause I had to float a bride out to a sandbar – as you do!) They agreed and I quickly lumbered back down the beach with the kayak.
Conscious of the unsteady nature of kayaks, I got into the water and held the kayak steady. The bride hopped on and voila! We made it out to the sandbar. I waded back to the shore and grabbed my camera. Looking at the sky it appeared everything was going to come together perfectly. The sun was about to set and I had the perfect bride and groom in the most perfect location you could imagine.
And I still had another 15 minutes to photograph them as the sky slowly changed colour, and the warm sun sank into the South Pacific ocean…
And I know what some of you brides might be thinking… “designer wedding dress and salty sea water?”
But I hope you’ll agree… the photos are worth it!

I certainly was a bit spoilt having this as my “front yard” whilst planning out the wedding day photography. These shots below are taken the evening before the big day. Was so nice to have time to spend with the bride and groom and discuss how we wanted the day to pan out photography-wise. We were due to return from One Foot Island just before sunset, so we discussed the possibility of photographing the bride and groom out on the sandbar. The tide would be a similar height and would work out perfectly. I just had to convince the bride to somehow get across the lagoon and be prepared to get her wedding dress wet!

This was always going to be one of those “once in a lifetime” weddings. When you fly halfway round the world to a remote tropical island in the South Pacific – it’s always going to be… just… truly awesome.

Being able to photograph a wedding in such a special venue really is a great honour. There’s only very few weddings in the amazing Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool and I was privileged enough to photograph one of them.

The excitement, the anticipation, the “calm before the storm”… the ‘bride getting ready’ photographs have all those elements and it’s a very special time before the big event.
I love photographing this part of the day. The air of expectation is great to capture and it’s a great way to start telling the story of the day. Subtle black and white and muted tones are how I like to edit these photos. As I endeavour to blog some more of the 100+ weddings i’ve photographed… you’ll start to see some different examples of this unique, exciting part of the wedding day…
